OUR HISTORY

FIGURE 1.1 THE FIRST SHOUT EDITION
I WAS INSPIRED BY IT 4 YEARS AGO, AND I STILL AM TODAY

The Shout was first established as an English Club publication back in 2011. It was printed in black and white, with a glossy, full-coloured front cover. On top of that, it was packed to the brim with articles to interest all its readers. Articles about school-related news, entertainment, sports, music and even gaming were included in the first publication. There were even columns that allowed student submissions for artwork, puzzles and short stories.

However, due to certain issues, The Shout was unfortunately discontinued that very year.

I received that first issue of The Shout when I was Form 1. Being a freshman, I remember it being the most glorious thing I'd ever read, and I had been incredibly impressed that the entire thing had been written and compiled by students alone! I was inspired by it 4 years ago, and I still am today. I had been extremely disappointed when there hadn't been a second issue of The Shout, and I always had ambitions of reviving it.

Thus, after a lot of blood, sweat and tears, The Shout newsletter was reborn. Due to the major influence of technology and social media, we decided to establish a digital newsletter, where students can have access to loads of information at the click of a button, rather than a printed copy of The Shout.

We thoroughly hope that students, teachers, parents, and just about anyone reading our newsletter will enjoy the fun little articles we post up. Thank you for all your support!

OUR VISION

FIGURE 1.2 THE SHOUT NEWSLETTER LOGO

The Shout is a digital newsletter run by the English Language Society (ELS) of SMK Bandar Sri Damansara (1). We hope this publication can create a platform where the students of SMK BSD1 are able to publicise their work to a bigger audience, and to let their creativity flow without boundaries. We also hope to be able to revive the writing and reading culture among our students and to show more love for the English language.

The Shout will mainly be covering school-related news, but we will also be posting up fun stuff such as short stories, student articles and interviews through out the week. We will also be tweeting!

Have a knack for writing? From drabbles you wrote at 3AM to opinionated pieces about current wold events, we hope you would not hesitate to submit them to us!

The Shout was revived thanks to the hard work and the love for the English language of our talented committee members. However, we can't do it alone! Help us grow by spreading the word; tell your friends and your enemies, follow us on Twitter and Blogspot, and of course, read our articles!
