“Hey sis, wake up!”
I felt a small fist hitting my leg repeatedly. Groggily, I looked up from my desk. A miniature puddle was dirtying my homework. I’ve been drooling, again.
“I’m never gonna get this done!” I screamed. I was prepared to rip out every single hair from my head. I’ve been at this report for days and I can never seem to stay awake long enough to finish it. The small fist hit my leg again.
“Ouch!” I pulled a face at the only person who dared to hit me, my little brother. “Don’t you have any homework to do, JJ?” I asked JJ, short for Jason Junior.
“Mom and dad aren’t home,” JJ ignored my question, giving me his killer smirk. “Wanna go to the trailer?”
I sighed, looking back and forth between JJ and my paper. “Well,” JJ slowly made his way to the door, “I guess I have to go on my own then.” He pouted before closing the door. Why? Why did he have to do that?

“Wait for me!”

It was Sunday night. Mom and dad were out at some party with their friends and we were not allowed to leave the house but the last time they were out, JJ and I found this secret camping site near our house and there was an empty trailer parked there.
JJ wanted to go there for a while now, so it was obvious that he was excited to hear our parents leaving the house. He ran ahead of me towards the trailer. When I got there, the door was half open. JJ signaled for me to enter. My body tensed up; this was trespassing private property. Well then again, if it was private property, the owner shouldn’t have left the door unlocked.
I entered the trailer, it was epic. A flat screen tv, a hot tub and a king-sized bed. While I stood there in shock, JJ took the chance to run around the whole trailer, turning on every switch he could see. After a few minutes, he stopped in front of me, his gaze fixed outside. “What’s up, JJ?” I turned around, following his gaze.
It was the stars. I led JJ outside and we laid down on the wet grass, identifying every star we knewwell, every star I knew. It was fun and all but eventually I got up to take JJ back home before mom and dad have panic attacks. But before I could, JJ ran back inside the trailer, saying that he wanted to experience a trailer toilet— he was seven, so I can’t blame him. I waited outside the trailer. 2 minutes. 3 minutes. 4 minutes…  “What’s taking so long?” I muttered as I stormed back inside. “Jason! Hurry up!” I banged on the bathroom door.
Suddenly, a screeching sound caught my attention and I whipped my head over to the window near the hot tub. A green car sped off with someone banging on the back window. I raised an eyebrow, the person looked familiar. My heartbeat rose. JJ?
I ran out of the trailer and chased the car but it was long gone. I crashed on the grass. Was that JJ in the car? My consciousness began playing tricks with me. It can’t be JJ, he’s still in the bathroom. But the person in the car was wearing the same shirt. There’s gotta be thousands of people with the same shirt, right?
The thoughts were giving me a headache. I went back into the trailer and found the bathroom door left ajar. I took a look around the trailer. Had JJ left thinking I went back already? Without hesitation, I ran back home. But the sight of police cars and a few dozen neighbours crowding on my front lawn stopped me in my tracks.
I continued standing there for a few seconds until my dad pulled me past the crowds. “Where have you been?” My mom embraced me. Dad still stood there, cold sweat dripped down his forehead. He kept looking around, constantly tapping on his trouser pocket. I broke away from my mom’s hands and said, “I was out with JJ.” Dad snapped over at the word “JJ”. “Where is your brother?” he asked. The blood instantly drained from my face. “Hasn’t… hasn’t he returned yet?” I stuttered. Dad asked the cop nearby and the cop shook his head.
“Seriously, where is your brother? We’re not playing around here,” Dad growled. “Didn’t he come back?” I bit my lower lip, multiple negative thoughts ran through my mind, worrying the crap out of me. Dad sighed, “No. We got this anonymous text saying that they had one of ours. That’s why we called the cops.” Dad showed me the message. Then it struck me. The person in the car was my brother!
I took off towards the trailer, mom and dad screaming their lungs out behind me. The cops nearby followed me, their weapons drawn. I got to the open field where the trailer was originally parked. I looked around. The trailer wasn’t there!

I fell onto my knees, my head in my palms. “It… It was here. I swear!” I called out to no one in particular. “Ma’am, we found something,” One of the cops held out a shiny in front of me. “JJ… It’s JJ’s fav…. Our family necklace…” I felt nauseous. The cop put the necklace into a clear evidence bag. I could clearly see the blood smudged from the necklace smudged against the clear bag. “Ma’am, let’s go, there’s nothing out here.” The cop held me up. I muttered incoherently under my breath all the way back to my house. But when my parents asked me what happened all I could say was, “Jas…J… JJ’s been kidnapped…”
